Referrals and Admissions

We aim to provide equal access to high quality education for all children and young people with SEMH to enable them to make good progress and to achieve their potential.

All pupils that attend Longdon Hall School have an Education, Health & Care (EHCP) plan.

Our pupil assessment procedures are available on request.

Admission criteria

  • Pupils will be aged between 7 and 18 years.
  • All pupils will have an Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP)
  • The EHCP will specify that the pupil has a primary need of social, emotional and mental health
  • Pupils will normally have been assessed as being within the low average to above average ability range.
  • Pupils may have learning difficulties and/or low attainment that are associated with their emotional and behavioural difficulties.
  • Pupils may have specific learning difficulties associated with ASC, a range of complex learning and communication needs and additional needs such as dyslexia, dyspraxia and dyscalculia.
  • Pupils may be admitted on the basis of their need for therapeutic support.

Admissions Process

Referrals are received both from parents and the local authority (LEA).  The Admissions Manager’s role is to liaise between parents and the local authority to ensure the most appropriate placement is secured.  Once consultation papers have been received from the LEA, the Head of School considers the paperwork provided and makes a decision as to whether the needs may be able to be met subject to assessment of the pupil by the school.  Parents and pupil are then invited into the school and if the school and parents feels it might be an appropriate placement the school will arrange a taster day or series of taster days to assess whether the pupil’s needs can be met.  Once this assessment process has taken place and the school feels it can meet need, an offer of placement will be put forward to the LEA.

Pupil Numbers

The school provides places for up to 76 girls and boys aged 7 to 18. Classes will have no more than eight pupils except where planned otherwise, for example, in P.E. where a whole year group may be taught together.

The school offers day provision for pupils from the local regions and neighbouring authorities. A space for a young person is subject to the criteria as detailed below:
