On Saturday 4th May 2019, pupils from LHS embarked on their dream trip to Wembley stadium to watch the Women’s FA Cup Final between Manchester City and West Ham United.
The group went to an all-you-can-eat restaurant on arrival. Pupils tried foods from around the world which was, to say the least, entertaining. Once finished, the group made the short walk to the stadium for the big match.
With kick off at 5.30 p.m, West Ham started the brighter of the two sides and came very close to scoring the opening goal. However, the first half ended 0-0. The second half was a different game altogether as Manchester City flexed their muscle, resulting in them scoring an early goal due to a goal keeping error. This was the pattern for the rest of the game which saw Manchester City run as 3-0 winners. This was fully deserved, as West Ham tried and struggled to keep up with the fitness of the Manchester City players.
The pupils were lucky enough to be sitting on the side that the players walk up to collect the FA Cup. As the players walked past us they were almost touching distance… “This is amazing! I do not want to stop clapping!” said one pupil.
The whole experience was fantastic. It makes our roles all the more rewarding when we get to see the joy on our pupils’ faces.
Many thanks to Scott, Dan, Kim and Kerry for their efforts.
